My name is Nadine Bauer. I am a biologist, professional diving instructor, and underwater photographer from Germany. Growing up in southern Bavaria, surrounded by stunning alpine lakes, majestic mountains, and lush forests, I was never exposed to the sea. Following a traditional path, I completed high school and earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in biology. However, I felt lost and stagnant in Germany, unable to envision a future there.

My love for the ocean and its mysteries arose when I began travelling solo during my university years, leading me to Indonesia in 2020. Captivated by the vibrant and colourful coral reefs, I decided to take an open-water diving course and immediately fell in love with the underwater world. From that moment, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in scuba diving and raise awareness about the importance of our oceans.

After earning my master’s degree in biology, I booked a one-way ticket to Mexico to focus on scuba diving and my passion for photography. In Mexico, I engaged with coral conservation projects and explored the enchanting cenotes, some of the most magical places on Earth. My photography experience initially stemmed from landscape and travel photography, along with some modelling in front of the camera. I dedicated all my savings and time to learning, experimenting, and improving my craft.

I now work full-time as a diving instructor in Malta. During the winter months, I travel to more tropical destinations with my partner, Ricardo, which brings me immense happiness. I have also delved into technical and cave diving, eagerly looking forward to further explorations in these challenging and fascinating areas. My background in biology and my passion for photography enable me to capture and share the ocean’s beauty, helping to raise awareness about its importance and the need for its protection.
